**This version contains over 130 new entries in the dictionary of classic rhyming slang!**
Rhyming slang is a form of wordplay in which, according to Wikipedia, “a word is replaced by a rhyming word, typically the second word of a two-word phrase (so stairs becomes apples and pears). The second word is then often dropped entirely (I am going up the apples), meaning that the association of the original word to the rhyming phrase is not obvious to the uninitiated. For example: Sherman for an American (Sherman tank = Yank).”
Our application contains both a dictionary of classic rhyming slang and a program to generate new rhyming slang. To use the rhyming slang generator, input a word and hit the “Search” button at the bottom-right hand corner of the keyboard. The program will search a database of over 44,000 phrases to find rhyming slang suggestions for the given input. Thus, for example, if you search for slang for the word “rock” the program will return a list of slang suggestions including “authorized stock” and “ball cock” to name just two of many. You can click on any rhyme suggestion to bring up its definition. You can also click on any of the classic rhyming slang entries in the dictionary to reveal its definition.
